Sofa over estrus vent?
We placed a sofa over a oestrus vent in the living room. At that place'south iii vents in the room then this one is covered by the sofa. The sofa does have legs and then it'south about two inches off the floor, and so the vent does have some room to broadcast. Whatsoever concerns with this setup? Is two inches enough clearance?

If you are worried near the sofa catching fire, there is no demand for business organization. The maximum temperature from the air vent is probably never more than 90F degrees.
Now for the purposes of heating efficiency (i.eastward. money savings) , Shabby has the right thought. The item in his epitome is $thirteen.77 at home depot. However I think the sharp bend in this product volition place a brake on air flow.
If y'all have enough vertical space I would advise 1 of these. Two for $7.85 at Dwelling house Depot.

We take used these and quite inexpensive.
Friends downwardly south used as well merely not for same reason. Their 2nd flooring vents in ceiling so used deflector to go along air from blowing into their faces due to where bed is fix.
And so in living room they have 3 [mayhap 4] floor vents. All covered with sofas and never noticed information technology existence too hot or cold at that place. This particular room has no room on top, just roof.
Here's an interesting question: For houses with cathedral ceilings... since oestrus rises that item room will exist libation so if do have a vent or 2 with sofa on top does that help in way to keep heat lower at to the lowest degree for a bit longer and so without sofa?

Good point... hopefully some staples there likewise... guess it depends on quality of furniture bought.
In the instance I stated above... been similar that since mid 2000s. I'll ask them to check under sofa but more probable I'll have to check on our next visit.

How nigh avoiding all the hassle and simply close the vent if you are worried. It will but cause the airflow to get to the to other vents.

I find the following piece of work best. You can adjust the popup to whatever height you lot desire, in OP'southward case, the 2" clearance.

we use these in several of our rooms, not only for nether the sofa, but just regular bedroom, I find it makes the room warmer, maybe because if not using any, heat loss is very fast next to cold exterior walls/windows

The increment to those ii vents would exist dwarfed by the reduction of menstruum from the one you lot covered. Y'all'd be reducing the oestrus to that room by 33%, and you lot'd maybe gain iv% flow from the other two. All the rest of that flow would be (roughly) evenly divided amidst all of the other registers in the business firm.
Those plastic covers are a expert solution, but be warned they're pretty brittle; the clear ones suspension Existent piece of cake (maybe if you slide the burrow into information technology, or pace on information technology for some reason), but the white plastic ones have a little more give (but are ugly ... IMO). In your case, the couch is on top, so not a big deal, merely only in case you're thinking of using them in other places (like my parents did for a while; I think I personally accidentally smashed 10 of those).
